(Harrisburg, PA) — The Chairs of the Pennsylvania Women’s Health Caucus, Senator Judith Schwank (D-11 Berks), Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D-17 Montgomery/Delaware), Representative Mary Jo Daley (D-148 Montgomery), and Representative Gina Curry (D-164 Delaware) put out the following statement in response to the ruling in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine et al v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration et al:
“Mifepristone is used in more than half of all the abortions in America and can be prescribed to treat miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and other medical conditions. Americans deserve access to this vital medication that allows them to safely treat health concerns and allows them to control their own bodies. Doctors deserve to be able to use all the tools at their disposal to treat patients without fear of repercussions.
This case, instigated by anti-abortion groups, could result in a devastating nationwide ban on one of the two medications used in medication abortion, even in states like Pennsylvania, where abortion is safe and legal.
While the anti-abortion movement is determined to try everything they can to control what decisions you and your family can make, our caucus is steadfast in our commitment to fighting for safe and accessible reproductive health care.”
